Review and Voucher Giveaway: Ricciotti Pizza Pasta Grill, Star Vista, Buona Vista

The third outlet of Ricciotti–the other two are at Riverwalk and China Square–features cement floor and a quirky mural of famous Italians, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Monica Bellucci, and Christopher Columbus. There is also al fresco sitting, exuding a relaxing ambience. Along with the launch of the new outlet is a new menu designed by Executive Chef Gero Dimaria, a native Italian who has been in Singapore for 15 years, so long that he speaks in a Singaporean accent.

Parma Ham Salad ($18.50)

For starters, try the Parma Ham Salad, consisting mixed greens, tomato, mozzarella and–to add a twist to the salad–baked parma ham.

Pane Aglio E Acciughe ($6.20)

If you want something with carbs, the pane aglio e acciughe is a pizza bread with “leopard spots,” or pockets of air caused by high heat, charred, and about the size of a 50-cent coin. The bread is topped with garlic, anchovy, parsley, rosemary and drizzled with olive oil: it was herby and salty with a tinge of pleasant pungency from the anchovy.  Hot and comforting.

Mains

Spaghetti Marinara ($23.50 or $68 for sharing 3-4 pax): calamari, clams, sea scallops, prawns

Although this is a common dish that can be found in many pasta restaurants, this version was comforting and homely. The trick, as Chef Dimaria informed me, is to add just a touch of tomato to the herbs and olive oil so that the tomato doesn’t overwhelm the dish. The prawns were especially bouncy and fresh.

Grilled Boneless Half Chicken ($19.50 for half/ $29.50 for whole)

The direction of the shop–that it’s rustic–was clearly signaled by its chicken. Marinated overnight with herbs and drizzled generously–may be overly generous–with olive oil, it was tender and succulent. The skin was grilled char, which is how I like it. Not to be missed is the mashed potato done in a rustic manner, with the skin of the potato mixed in the mash. It was creamy with a hint of nutmeg–very addictive–and this is coming from a person who doesn’t like potatoes.
