Koh Grill & Sushi Bar - Shiok!!! Maki
Been seeing and hearing a lot about the Shiok Maki, a Singapore-inspired sushi,  so Yandao & I came early to try. Yes, we heard about the long queue and waiting time too. (edit: But you can make reservations. Text your name, number of people, date, and time to the mobile number listed below.)

Luckily we came at 4ish, near 5pm and we got a table immediately. The lady in charge was super nice, recommending us to try since it’s our first time there. Highly recommended dishes by her:
Shiok!!! Maki ($16.80, pictured above) – heavenly combination of charcoal grilled eel wrapped with lightly roasted salmon
Shiok!!! 2nd generation maki ($16.80, pictured below) – Crispy prawn wrapped in lightly roasted salmon
Crappy Maki ($18) – Crispy soft-shell crab and seaweed wrapped with seared swordfish belly
Crispy Udon

Koh Sushi - •	Shiok!!! 2nd generation maki
Yandao & I wanted to try their Shiok Maki but since Yandao doesn’t eat eel, we requested for half Shiok!!! Maki (gen 1) and half Shiok!!! Maki (gen2). The lady was super nice to allow that. She also said that since Yandao doesn’t take other sashimi except Salmon, I can order Sashimi and let her know how many slices I want, she will charge accordingly. Woah. We can actually customize the number of slices!

Koh Sushi - sake aburi and sake sushi
We also had the Sake Aburi ($4.20 for 2 pcs), Sake sushi ($2.80 for 2 pcs), Shiok! Sushi ($6/pc). Shiok sushi is basically another version of Shiok!!! Maki. The Shiok-ness is from the excessive sauce and the huge amount of roe. We loved whatever we ordered, cos I love everything that is Aburi Salmon!

The food was very good, but not super duper good. What is really good is the service.

Waiting time is approx 15 min during not so peak period. For peak period, be prepared to wait up to 30 min. The lady told us about the waiting time when we ordered and she was apologetic for it, stating that they are understaffed right now. We also overheard her asking another customer if she was just here the week before. Such good personal touch!

  1. i clicked on the link to this post very excitedly to see how you will slam the bad service there but i am very surprised to see otherwise!!
you see, i have been to this place once and swore never to return cos of the non-existent service..
and i heard the same feedback from friends too….maybe should really patronise them at odd hours instead.

  2. Have you guys tried ‘The Sushi Bar’ at Far East Plaza? I’ve only had the aburi rolls there (both their soft shell crab aburi rolls and salmon aburi rolls are sooo good). I haven’t tried the Shiok Maki yet and I’m wondering how it compares so I know whether Koh’s Sushi Bar and Grill is worth the long queues haha. And if you haven’t been to The Sushi Bar, you really should (but make reservations)!
