Adjustable 4D3N Itinerary to 7D6N

Although I am providing a 5D4N itinerary, I will give options, which means you can adjust the itinerary to 4D3N or as long as 7D6N. The first three days will be around Perth city, which you can walk or travel for free on free CAT buses. But Western Australia is a huge place, and for other attractions, you need to drive.

Before Flying to Perth

1. Apply visa. All Singaporeans require visa. See Chiobu’s recommendation.

2. Travel insurance. We bought from Aviva online.

3. Check out useful websitesTourism Western Australia, and Western Australian Visitor Centre.

4. Airport TransferPerth Airport Connect A$15 one way. But a cab costs about A$40-45 from airport to city, so if you have three or more persons, take a cab.

5. Book Car: Bring driver’s license, no need to apply for International license. There are 5 major car rental companies in Perth: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, and Thrifty. After comparing the prices, I found that Avis and Hertz were similar. Most people at the airport went for the two companies too. In the end, I chose Hertz because it has a more professional website. I had a red Toyota Corolla, which was very smooth.

TIP #1: Do not get the GPS from the car rental company. Get a prepaid SIM (see below for “Data Coverage in Perth”) and use Google maps, it’s cheaper. And you get to have a data plan to upload your instagram photos. Remember to get car insurance.

TIP #2: If you’re parking in the city, the carpark can cost up to A$4 an hour or up to $38 a day. Our hotel wanted to charge A$42. The solution is to find roadside parking, which is free after 6pm and free on Sundays. Wellington Street, in front of 4 Points by Sheraton, our hotel, provides such parking.

Budget for Perth Trip

Jetstar Air Ticket per pax: S$450
Car Rental (for two days, including car insurance): A$245
Accommodations (3 nights): A$250 per room per night
Spending (including food and shopping for four persons, 4D3N): About A$2000

We spent very freely: we stayed in relatively good accommodations and ate quite well. But you can probably cut down on accommodations and food if you’re on a budget.

Wi-Fi in Perth

Not all hotels, restaurants and cafes provide free wifi. And although the Perth city offers free wifi, the coverage is limited to few streets in the city. My advice is to immediately buy a prepaid card at the airport when you arrive. I bought from Vodafone for only A$10 for 250MB or A$30 for 1GB of data.

    • If you’re fit, and if you’re only going to the city area, just walk. The city is small enough to walk. But if you want to travel outside of the city, then just rent the car for those days you’re travelling outside. The traffic is great, and the drivers are polite. So don’t worry about the driving. It’s must easier driving in Australia than in Singapore.
