Directly translated from Hokkien, it means \u201crubbish eat, rubbish grow.\u201d<\/em> But like many things in life, it\u2019s deeper than it sounds. It\u2019s about resilience \u2014 the belief that what doesn\u2019t kill you makes you stronger. It\u2019s also something Singaporean parents used to say at the dinner table: finish your food, don\u2019t waste.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That spirit is what this blog was built on \u2014 an attitude of honesty, humour, and an open mind towards food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 2010, Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow<\/strong> started as a one-man protest against overly polished food writing. Back then, every other dish in Singapore was \u201cto-die-for.\u201d We wanted to tell it like it is \u2014 good or bad \u2014 and to write the way people actually eat: with heart, appetite, and opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, we\u2019ve eaten everywhere from hawker stalls to omakase counters, stayed in hotels from budget to boutique, and travelled across borders chasing flavours worth remembering. Through it all, one thing remains unchanged \u2014 our commitment to honesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We pay for most of our meals and review anonymously, because we believe that truth tastes best when it\u2019s unfiltered.<\/em> Occasionally, we join media tastings to connect with fellow writers, but our opinions have never been for sale.
