In fact, it has only been around for more than 8 years. Like all hipsters, Mr NGFL was taken in by the decrepit look that he liked all the food, including the <strong>wanton mee<\/strong>, which <strong>Straits Times once named The Best Wanton Mee in Singapore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But the wanton mee was not fantastic. Done in an old school way with black sauce, the noodles were rubber bands, hard to sever the strands, and the wanton and dumplings had a porky stench. The soup was oily, nothing special too.<\/p>\n<p>What was really good were the roast meats: <strong>char siew<\/strong> (roasted pork) and <strong>siew yok<\/strong>\u00a0(roasted pork belly), fat with a great texture. The <strong>char siew<\/strong> was caramelized well and had a smoky aroma and the <strong>siew yok <\/strong>possessed\u00a0that crackling wholesomeness that made it irresistible.<\/p>\n<p>But it was quite <strong>costly<\/strong>.
