Similar to\u00a0Empire Cafe that served expensive hawker fare, Ujong serves <strong>local hawker food with a twist<\/strong>. Befitting for the historical Raffles Hotel.\u00a0I ate at Empire Cafe a few years ago, and if I remember correctly, Ujong only refurnishes\u00a0the <strong>colonial decor,\u00a0<\/strong>not a major overhaul&#8211;a shrewd\u00a0decision, suitable to the theme of the food. The\u00a0<strong>prawn-flavoured noodle (har zi meen<\/strong>, $17.90, below), inspired by Indomie, had a smelly oil stench. \u00a0The 6 <strong>chicken wings<\/strong> ($16.90) was tender and well-marinated, but had the smelly oil stench too and was overly\u00a0oleaginous, like all the dishes.
