\nHaving read a few negative reviews online, I didn’t go with high expectations. But after the meal, I disagree strongly with those reviews.<\/p>\n

\nSituated in the same building as the 24-hour McDonald’s, the a la carte Japanese buffet<\/strong> has at least 145 items<\/strong> and there are some additional seasonal items such as salmon belly sashimi<\/strong> or grilled salmon\u00a0<\/strong>(above). Seafood delivery is made throughout the week to ensure freshness of ingredients.\u00a0The\u00a0yakimono<\/em>\u00a0(grilled) items are prepared freshly on the spot, instead of catering them pre-packed.<\/p>\n

\nAmong the items, there were many hits and few misses. The\u00a0pork salad<\/strong> in creamy sesame dressing, and sashimi\u00a0seafood salad <\/strong>(above)\u00a0were super refreshing, a great counterpoint\u00a0to heavier dishes.\u00a0Shake wafu teppan\u00a0<\/strong>was also great, a grilled salmon in a stew-like sauce.\u00a0Assorted tempura<\/strong> was light, and oil-less. The seasonal dish,\u00a0grilled salmon<\/strong>, was fresh and well cooked.<\/p>\n

\nThe only issue lay in grilled dishes with teriyaki sauce<\/strong> (above). Somehow, the sauce was bitter and burnt. But the majority of items, such as assorted<\/b> sashimi<\/strong>, was\u00a0decent.<\/p>\n

\nThere are many promotions<\/a>, such as Ladies’ Nights on Mondays and Wednesdays, Men’s Night on Tuesday, and kids eat for free on Sundays. This is a good value<\/strong>, good quality<\/strong> a la carte Japanese buffet. You sit in a comfortable setting<\/strong>, you get served, and the 3 servers were prompt, hardworking, and attentive. I’d recommend Shinkei for corporate events<\/strong> or large family<\/strong> gatherings as there are private rooms<\/strong> for 10-45 persons with no extra charge.\u00a0Sake<\/strong> and other alcoholic drinks available at a separate\u00a0cost.<\/p>\n
