Bought a coupon from Groupon, which is by far my favorite discount website, although it has failed me this time. I bought the coupon for $25 for a $50 voucher, so it seems like it’s half price. But the meal came up to $154, which means I spent $130 for two.<\/p>\n

We ordered Grilled Puffer Fish<\/strong>\u00a0($15),\u00a0Mixed Tempura<\/strong>\u00a0($18),\u00a0Sashimi<\/strong>\u00a0($88) and\u00a0Softshell crab roll<\/strong> ($10). While I think the food tasted nice–not particularly delicious–the price is a complete rip-off. It’s one thing to be a celebrity chef, always appearing on sound bytes, media and television; but it’s another thing to run a good restaurant. I don’t mind paying for good food, you can see my track record under Index<\/a> page. I paid for $150usd for 12 pieces of sushi once and I left that restaurant happy. But in this restaurant, I was fleeced blind.<\/p>\n

Let me let you in on a secret that a famous Japanese sushi chef told me: Sashimi is not<\/em> authentic Japanese food; it’s done to scam all the money of the gaijins<\/em>, foreigners. And I should have run out of the restaurant when the waiter said their specialty is the sashimi. Seriously, how can any restaurant’s specialty be sashimi?! It’s just raw food!! But never mind, we ordered the Sashimi for 2<\/strong> ($88) and we don’t mind that the sashimi isn’t jumping alive on the plate but the portions were for 0.5 anorexic fashion model. How can 2 normal persons be full eating it?! The mixed tempura<\/strong> ($18) consisted of 3 miserly prawns and 3 small pieces of vegetable. No doubt, they weren’t oily but such quality could be found in many cheap places in Singapore. The grilled puffer fish<\/strong> ($15), which tasted like less-sweet bak kwa with a smoother texture, was tinier than the dollop of mayonnaise!<\/p>\n

The food is very commonplace and overly, extremely exorbitant. Why was it crowded on a weekday night? Because the place was crammed with those boastful, insecure, loud-mouthed parvenus showing off their new wealth–one even drove his ferrari right up to the entrance of the restaurant, on the double yellow no parking lines–and the servers focused on them, while snubbing the new customers. Seriously, money can’t buy you class – or good taste.<\/p>\n

Overall, this is a very unpleasant experience and there will be no replay for Yoyogi.<\/p>\n
