\nMercure<\/a><\/strong> and Pullman<\/a><\/strong> are under Accor Hotels, and they are in the same building (but different towers), sharing the same reception, gym, restaurants, and swimming pool. Their location is perfect<\/strong>, smack in the heart of Brisbane CBD. You cross the road, and it’s Brisbane Museum<\/strong>, and Queen Street Mall<\/strong>, the only mall in Brisbane. Or if you cross the bridge, a 5-minute walk, you reach\u00a0Southbank.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"Pullman<\/p>\n

The difference is that Mercure is a 3-star hotel, and Pullman a 5-star. The difference is the price. I paid\u00a0A$438 for 2 nights at Mercure<\/strong>, but the EDB organizers, who invited me to give a talk<\/a>, managed to get Pullman to sponsor my 2 nights’ stay. Like all hotels, the prices at Pullman fluctuate with available occupancy: it can go as low as A$200 or as high as A$400 a night.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mercure is a little tired and old. The windows are slits. But I had a corner room, which is spacious, and in that room, there is a passageway\u00a0that leads from the door\u00a0to a sharp right turn into\u00a0the room proper. I always associate\u00a0such extravagant use of space with luxury.<\/span><\/p>\n

PULLMAN Hotel<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pullman is newer, and has wide windows. A palpable difference between the two hotels: Pullman is more chic and\u00a0more comfortable than Mercure, but both toilets share a similar fault. The shower heads are fixed lowly, and I , a 1.8m person, had to stoop to\u00a0shower.<\/span><\/p>\n

The SERVICE<\/strong>\u00a0was non-intrusive, and efficient. Swift check-in, quick\u00a0check-out.<\/span>\u00a0My klutz of a friend left his wallet and handphone in the car, an airport-hotel transfer provided by Pullman. \u00a0When we told the assistant manager, he took immediate actions, and returned the items to us in our room in 2 heartbeats. My friend was relieved.<\/span><\/p>\n

The buffet breakfast <\/b>at Bistro Allure<\/strong>\u00a0was pretty decent. Not a wide selection, but rather tasty. The bacon was meaty, and kick-ass salty, which I loved. And the omelette, cooked\u00a0a la minute, was fluffy, and buttery, with oozing cheese.<\/span><\/p>\n

All in all, a pleasant stay. No complaints, only compliments.<\/span><\/p>\n
