There are two famous beaches at Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise<\/strong> and Broadbeach<\/strong>. The former is more touristy but also more developed, and the latter is a ghost town at night. The most convenient\u00a0hotels you can stay at are\u00a0Hilton Surfers Paradise<\/a>\u00a0and Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise<\/a>, smack right in the center\u00a0of the action. If you’re on a budget, there are several affordable ones; make sure it’s walkable distance to\u00a0Hanlan Street<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

We won Best Asia’s Food Blog<\/a>, and Asia Rooms<\/a>\u00a0gifted us a S$300 hotel voucher. The rule stipulated that we couldn’t top up the voucher, so we picked Crowne Plaza<\/a>, a 4-star hotel, midway between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. If you walk along the sea, it takes 30 minutes to each beach. But there is a tram, newly started 2-3 months ago. The stop is just in front of Crowne Plaza, and takes about 10 minutes to either beaches. From Crowne Plaza, it takes only about 30-40 minutes to Gold Coast Airport<\/a> by tram and bus. Economical and very convenient.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Crowne
\nCrowne Plaza is the perfect location for horror movies–I love it! Beside the laundromat at the basement, the empty gym<\/strong> looks like it has been converted from a hospital room. There are two swimming pools<\/strong>, and both are lit with green lights<\/strong> at night. How scary is that!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nWe didn’t stay at the main tower, which looked festive. Our Gold Tower was empty as Jack Nicholson’s\u00a0The Shining<\/em>. My friend was so frightened that for the first time in our entire trip, he knocked on the hotel room door to “inform” any\u00a0unseen occupants we were entering, a Singaporean superstition! He was so frightened that I had to prop a chair against the door knob to assure him\u00a0that zombies couldn’t enter our room. HAHA!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Crowne<\/p>\n

\"Crowne
\nOne area\u00a0that contributes to the fright factor is that the room is\u00a0old. But it is spacious. How many hotels have balconies these days? There is a glimpse of seaview, and the sea breeze is invigorating.\u00a0As you enter the room, there is a “walk in closet” to the left, which leads to a bathroom, and a separate toilet. The bathroom has a jacuzzi! Wheeeee!<\/p>\n

\"Crowne
\nQuite a harrowing experience for my friend, but quite a fun one for me. Good service<\/strong> too: There was a slim male receptionist that was very friendly and made the check-in process smooth. If you don’t mind that Crowne Plaza isn’t in the happening area, go for it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
