This year, I’ve already checked out a few of the 16 fine-dining restaurants<\/a>, 34 cafes<\/a>, 85 afterwork\/gathering places<\/a>, and 38 family-friendly casual restaurants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spizza Mercato<\/a> at Capitol Piazza<\/strong>\u00a0(13 Stamford Road,\u00a0Capitol Piazza #B2-52 Singapore 178905; +65 6702 1835; 10.30am-10.30pm) is the second casual restaurant under Entertainer I’ve checked out this year. “Mercato” means “market,” and the difference between Spizza<\/a> and Spizza Mercato is that Mercato sells Italian grocery (like parma ham) and kitchen utensils.<\/p>\n

The 1-for-1 deal offered here is good for both pizzas and pastas; you can order 1 pizza and 1 pasta. \u00a0The pastas start from $14 onwards, and the pizzas from $18. So ordering 1-for-1 means 2 persons only need to pay about $20! $10 each!<\/p>\n

Both the pizza and pasta we tried are good. We wanted a light pasta and chose the “Create Your Own Pasta<\/strong>” option, using freshly made fettuccine<\/strong> ($17.50, below) with pesto<\/strong> (free topping). Mr Fitness couldn’t get enough of it. It’s almost\u00a0impossible for fresh pasta to achieve an al dente texture—only dry pasta can—so it may be soft, which I didn’t mind. Unlike the usual olive oil-based pesto, there is cream added, giving it a richness. There is also a liquorice taste (fennel?), which makes it piquant and exciting.\"spizza-mercato-capitol-piazza\"<\/p>\n

The tara\u00a0<\/strong>pizza ($20 10-inch\/$24 12-inch, below) is pretty good too: thin, light, and there are “leopard spots” (burnt marks) which\u00a0are characteristic of authentic Neapolitan pizzas. The combination of egg, bacon, mushroom, on mozzarella on Tara is a crowd-pleaser.\"spizza-mercato-capitol-piazza\"<\/p>\n
