\"royal-j-fried-porridge-singapore\"Royal J’s Seafood at Foch Road<\/strong> is a success story made popular from social media. I first read it on SG Food on Foot and boomz! It’s everywhere on social media.<\/p>\n

I asked Mr Fitness, who was from Ipoh and whose family is in the food business, “How come when we did the Best Food in Ipoh, you didn’t bring me to eat fried porridge?”<\/p>\n

“My family doesn’t eat fried porridge. If I ask my dad, he will know where it is. But it’s not really a specialty in Ipoh.”<\/p>\n

Wah, Fried Porridge is like Sun Yanzi. Must be famous elsewhere first before the locals recognize it.<\/p>\n

\"royal-j-seafood-jalan-besar-review\"After 45 minutes of waiting, the fried porridge <\/b>($6) came but surprisingly, it was not scalding; it was only lukewarm. It tastes like when porridge, yam puree, and claypot rice have a threesome. It isn’t wet, like porridge. It’s more gooey like yam puree, but it has the char aroma of claypot rice. It’s not bad, but it lacks texture, so everything is flat. Even the lean pork in the porridge has the same gooey texture. There are some bits of lard, which is excessive, but mostly, the texture is flat. I wonder if they can add something crispy in it.<\/p>\n

Both Mr Fitness and I liked the cze char much better than the fried porridge. The salted egg yolk sotong<\/strong> ($15) , slightly wet, is the savory kind, and sambal kangkong<\/strong> ($8) is nicely spicy, not overly so, and still has a crunch.<\/p>\n

On the whole, Royal J’s Seafood has rather good cze char. We won’t miss the fried porridge so much but the stall has good dishes. We spent $29 for two persons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
