Burger+<\/strong> opens their second outlet at Clarke Quay Central<\/strong> mall, taking over the space where Chili\u2019s @ Clarke Quay<\/a> was previously at. It prides itself on serving an authentic Korean gourmet burger<\/strong> experience with a Western twist.<\/p>\n

The owners of Burger+, with more than 10 years of F&B experience in established fast casual chains in South Korea.<\/p>\n

\"\"Besides burgers, Burger+ offers fried chicken<\/strong> and locally-brewed beers<\/strong> to go with it – a classic combination in South Korea. With anticipation, I made my order at the counter and was given a buzzer to self-collect my food and drinks later. No service charge.<\/p>\n

For fried chicken, one can choose from having half a portion<\/strong> ($15.80), whole portion<\/strong> ($28.20), drumsticks<\/strong> ($10.80 for 3 pcs, $19.80 for 6 pcs, $29.80 for 9 pcs) or wingettes & drumettes<\/strong> ($9.20 for 6 pcs, $17.20 for 12 pcs, $24.80 for 18 pcs). Also, you can choose from 4 different flavours with varying spice leve<\/strong>l.<\/p>\n

Honey chicken<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We are not in the mood for spicy stuff so we opted for honey chicken<\/strong> and soy garlic chicken<\/strong> drumsticks. If you\u2019re up for it, the server recommends going for Burger+ fiery \u201chot yangnyeom<\/strong>\u201d which is a specially formulated Burger+ sauce; a childhood favourite of co-founder Lee Mihyun back in South Korea.<\/p>\n

I prefer the soy garlic as compared to the honey chicken as I find the honey chicken sauce to be too sweet for my liking. I like my fried chicken to be savoury. It is also a pity that once you get past the crispy skin, the meat is bland and tough.<\/p>\n

Soy garlic chicken<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For burgers<\/strong>, each beef patty (130g) is a mix of USDA Prime and choice beef, comprising of 4 different cuts, one of which is short rib (remaining cuts are “trade secrets”) and cooked medium well on the griddle.<\/p>\n

The potato flour buns, made in-house, are soft and fluffy.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

No fancy toppings here – the Korean bulgogi burger<\/strong> ($13.80) is complemented with caramelized onions, lettuce and bulgogi + lots of mayonnaise. This is an indulgent one and I like the sauce.<\/p>\n

You get more toppings with the truffle burger<\/strong> ($21) which comes with truffle slice, truffle puree, caramelized onions and button mushroom slices. Even with all that, my friend isn\u2019t too impressed with the truffle burger: she feels that it isn\u2019t juicy enough and the addition of truffle does not do much to elevate a mediocre burger.<\/p>\n

Breakfast burgers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With the beef patty cooked medium well, I have to agree that it is not as juicy and flavourful as I hope for – I could only taste the sauce but not the beefy goodness. This comes as a surprise to me as the go-to person in the kitchen is Nick Lee<\/strong>, who used to be the executive chef at Lawry\u2019s The Prime Rib Singapore<\/a> for over 17 years.<\/p>\n

The cheese fries<\/strong> ($7.30 for regular, $9.80 for large) is a hit for us with a good portion of melted cheddar, parmesan cheese and cheese sauce. Crispy fries with savoury gooey cheese goes well with cold beer.<\/p>\n

\"\" Their 777 beer<\/strong> ($8.80 for 330ml bottle, $12.90 for a pint, $49 for 2L tower) is a clean, crisp, and slightly bitter lager crafted by Randy Liew, the award-winning brew master of Thirsty Asia (previously brew master of The Pump Room).<\/p>\n

Burger+ also has a decent selection of cocktails for you to try. With a name like Miss Korea<\/strong> ($19) for a cocktail, I knew I had to try it. Miss Korea consists of gin, egg white, strawberry and lime juice. Nope, having that didn\u2019t prompt me to go under the knife. Oops.<\/p>\n

From 8 am till 5 pm, Burger+ also offers breakfast toasts<\/strong> (egg toast with ham & cheese\/ avocado\/ bacon & cheese\/beef bulgogi). For folks partying at Clarke Quay, you now have another option for supper as Burger+ is open till 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.<\/p>\n

All in all, the food here is satisfactory but it would not be the first place that I think of if I want to satisfy my burger and fried chicken craving.<\/p>\n
