Jurassic World Caf\u00e9<\/strong> is now open at ION Orchard Sky<\/strong>, Level 56. It is based on the original concept by THE GUEST caf\u00e9 and diner, operated by PARCO in Japan. This pop-up themed caf\u00e9 will be available from 6 November 2021 till 3 January 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Volcano Curry ($23)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Some of the menu items are very much in theme with the movie, such as the Volcano Curry<\/strong> ($23) that depicts the curry as a flowing lava from a cone of ink rice and Geologic Parfait<\/strong> ($16) with layers of cream and cookie crumbles in a glass.<\/p>\n

Nasi Lemak ($20)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The caf\u00e9 also offers Nasi Lemak<\/strong> ($20) to cater to local tastes but I find it exorbitant for basically a chicken wing, a hard-boiled egg, anchovies, peanuts and crackers. You can get better nasi lemak from a coffeeshop for a fraction of the price or even slightly upmarket but with quality ones from a fancy nasi lemak restaurant.<\/p>\n

Jurassic World Burger ($28)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Curly Fries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We tried two mains, Jurassic World Burger<\/strong> ($28) and a seasonal special, Christmas Meat Platter<\/strong> ($25).<\/p>\n

For the Jurassic World Burger, the beef patty is expertly grilled to medium rare but unfortunately, it is not seasoned well enough. It is on the verge of bland. I do not know how they manage to cook bacon until it is not savoury. It ends up dry and burnt, and it does nothing to help the burger.<\/p>\n

Christmas Meat Platter ($25)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Christmas Meat Platter<\/strong> ($25) is not really considered a platter because it consists of only a pork rib, a chicken wing, and potato cubes. The pork rib is dry, and the meat falls apart in flakes. I am not sure what is in the marinade for the chicken wing but it tastes odd with the spice mix. The roasted potato cubes are tasty though.<\/p>\n

Fossil Excavation Cake ($16)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For dessert, we had Fossil Excavation Cake<\/strong> ($16), which is a layer of sponge cake with cream, cocoa biscuit, strawberry and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Cookies and cream with cake is a good combination. I wish they are more generous with the strawberry because it was just one strawberry cut into half. Maybe it is more for decoration purpose than playing a part for the flavours.<\/p>\n

Mosasaurus Soda ($8)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Mosasaurus Soda<\/strong> ($8) tastes like sparkling liquid toothpaste. The Latte<\/strong> ($6) is decent and has a cute dinosaur image on its foam. However, after a few sips, the edible paper-like coating on the foam swivels around the coffee like an unwanted debris.<\/p>\n

Latte ($6)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Besides a life-size figurine of Blue (a Velociraptor in the movie), a photo op backdrop, LED walls of dinosaurs and a corner shop selling merchandise, there is nothing much for children to do in the caf\u00e9. The movie theme song is on a perpetual loop and it gets a little tiresome after I hit the 30-minute mark being in the caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

I think the caf\u00e9 can do better to entice customers with more engaging entertainment. For example, they can play the Jurassic World movies at a screening corner or have some spin-off arcade games to remind us why we love dinosaurs so much. Or maybe, they can just work on the food.<\/p>\n
