As we become more environmentally conscious, packaging for mooncakes tends to be simpler with less waste or something that can be reused. I enjoy this trend to simplify things. These are the mooncakes I received and these are the honest ratings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AROMA TRUFFLE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aroma Truffle is a potato chips company that ventured into mooncake. Their signature is adding a lot of truffle oil in their chips and also in their mooncakes. Last year, they launched their mao shan wang truffle mooncakes<\/strong>, and this year they added other flavours including yuzu<\/strong>, matcha<\/strong>, and pistachio. <\/strong>I thought the flavours clash with truffle and the skin is doughy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rating: 4\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BYND ARTISAN x SUNDAY FOLKS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bynd Artisan is a leather shop that provides popular workshops. Sunday Folks is the cafe with excellent (but rather expensive) soft serve and waffles. Here, Bynd Artisan provides the packaging, a leather woven basket that acts as a lantern for mid-autumn. The bite-sized mooncakes aren’t traditional. The crust is more like Sunny Hilly pineapple tarts crust, but not as eggy or soft or gentle. Within, it’s a custard lava. It’s slightly too sweet for me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ONE 15 MARINA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One 15 Marina’s packaging is gorgeous. They made the environmentally conscious decision not to be extravagant yet at the same time the box is innovative and classy. And the snowskin mooncakes are high quality and delicious: Strawberry Mascarpone<\/strong>, Organic Japanese Genmaicha with Pecan Nuts<\/strong>, Superior Bird\u2019s Nest,<\/strong> and Mao Shan Wang<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rating: 8\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAUL<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

bite-sized mini mooncakes from French Bakery Paul. They are like avocadoes, hard to find the right timing to thaw: too early it’s icy, too late it’s mushy. Tastewise it is okay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PINE GARDEN<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family-run, old-school bakery with about 40 years of history. Their mooncakes are homely and have innovative flavours including ginger<\/strong>, lychee martini <\/strong>(they also have a cake in this flavour, and this cake is what made them popular), dirty matcha<\/strong>, yam paste<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rating: 6.5\/10<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SICHUAN DOU HUA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their packaging is a handbag but honestly I feel like people won’t use it; it’s more likely to be a child’s toy or thrown away, so perhaps it’s better to cut down on the packaging to be environmentally friendly? They keep it simple with the mooncakes, quite traditional with limited flavours: White Lotus Seed Paste <\/strong>(Single or Double Yolk), Lychee Rose Lotus Seed Paste<\/strong>, and Bi Luo Chun Tea Lotus Paste<\/strong>. They are not too sweet (best compliment to give to any Asian dessert) and the taste is fantastic. I can’t stop eating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
