One unhappy incident<\/strong> stood out for me. My hand was zooming in on the ice cream scoop in slow motion when suddenly a hand swooped in and snatched my scoop away. I stood there, gaping with my mouth open and eyes wide. The guy\u00a0saw me and said, “Sorry har,” and continued taking the ice cream. The worst part of the incident is that he is one of the staff in the hotel<\/strong>, wearing a uniform.<\/p>\n

The service<\/strong> was erratic. At first, we couldn’t even get a glass of water and when they took our plates away, they left the utensils on the table (is it hygienic to put utensils on the table surface directly?). But later, it became excellent. A waiter came and said, “Sorry it was our fault that we haven’t been changing your utensils.” And from then on, it was as if we had a personal butler. Our glasses were always filled and our utensils changed often.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Food<\/strong>: For a $55 buffet<\/strong>, the variety wasn’t much. There was a Western section<\/strong> with breads and salads and roast beef, cold meat and oysters; a Japanese<\/strong> section with sushi, salmon sashimi, tempura, tako balls and soba; an Indian section<\/strong> with the usual curries and briyani; a Chinese<\/strong> section with some stir-fried dishes and a dessert<\/strong> section. In fact, it took me only 2 rounds to sample the entire buffet of food.<\/p>\n

The food, on the whole, was average or slightly above average. There were three highlights to the buffet. The food at\u00a0Indian<\/strong>\u00a0section<\/strong> was rather tasty and the oysters<\/strong> were freshly shucked in front of you. You order the number of oysters you want, and the chef will shuck them. But this also means that you will have to wait a long time. Shucking oysters is a difficult job – and people queue up for oysters.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The third highlight is the desserts because there were hot chinese desserts<\/strong> such as orb bee bur (black rice soup). Add ice cream into the orb bee bur to make up your own dessert. I also invented a dessert dish that was superbly delicious. Spread kaya and butter over the crunchy waffle and add vanilla ice cream on top.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meal, our “butler” asked if we wanted tea or coffee. This was quite unexpected because at other buffets, you have to pay for tea and coffee. Here, it was free. My date got a latte or cappuccino (I forgot).<\/p>\n

He said, “Oh look it’s a leaf.”<\/p>\n

I replied, “It’s obviously a christmas tree.”<\/p>\n

“No It’s a leaf.”<\/p>\n

“Why won’t anyone put a leaf that looks like a christmas tree when it is near christmas?”<\/p>\n

Overall, the service<\/strong> and decor<\/strong> and the quality of\u00a0food<\/strong> ameliorated the bad experience I had with the staff who was eating the same buffet for their dinner<\/strong>. But I thought the food<\/strong> could be tastier and have more variety. This gets a rating between “recommended” and “not sure.” Which means I don’t mind coming again if friends want to come but I won’t crave for the food here.<\/p>\n
