Glasshouse mood. Soft daylight. Wooden furniture. Plants doing free interior design. It is the kind of cafe where people walk in and instantly start deciding which corner makes them look most like they are having a peaceful life.

But pretty cafes always come with one important question: is the food good, or is the decor doing unpaid labour?

We went in expecting a calm setting, decent brunch and maybe one or two dishes that would justify the hype.

Fifty Trees Breakfast: Safe, Filling, Very Brunch

The Fifty Trees Breakfast is the kind of plate that looks like it was assembled to stop table arguments.

There is a bit of everything: eggs, toast, sausage, mac and cheese and the usual big-breakfast items that make people feel like they are ordering properly. It is filling, familiar and easy to share if your table wants something savoury before moving on to sweets.

Taste-wise, it is decent but not especially memorable. The eggs and toast do their job, the sausage and mac and cheese give the plate some salt and weight and the salad pretends to keep things balanced. Nothing tastes bad. Nothing feels careless. But nothing on the plate really jumps out either.

This is the dish for people who want a safe brunch order, not a dramatic one. It fills you up. It looks good on the table. It gives you enough variety to feel satisfied.

Would we order it again? Maybe, but only if we wanted something predictable.

Egg Benedict: The Better Savoury Order

The Egg Benedict was the savoury dish that made more sense to us.

A good egg benedict does not need to reinvent brunch. It just needs the eggs to run properly, the sauce to be rich without becoming glue, and the bread to hold everything together without collapsing like it has given up on life.

Here, the dish felt more focused than the Fifty Trees Breakfast. The runny egg brought softness, the hollandaise added creamy richness, and the salty element helped keep the dish from tasting too flat. It is not shocking or wildly creative, but it knows what it is supposed to be.

The texture is the main appeal. You get soft egg, creamy sauce, slightly chewy bread, and enough savouriness to make it feel like a proper brunch dish rather than just a pretty cafe plate.

Would we call it the best egg benedict in JB? No need to create violence.

Would we order it over the Fifty Trees Breakfast? Yes.

Nutella Banana Pancakes: Dessert In Brunch Clothing

The Nutella Banana Pancakes are not pretending to be sensible.

This is the kind of order you choose when you have already decided the meal is no longer about health, balance or personal growth. It is sweet, soft, chocolatey and very much built for people who believe brunch should come with a sugar warning.

The banana helps a little by adding fruitiness and softness, while the Nutella gives the pancakes that familiar chocolate-hazelnut richness. When the pancakes are warm, the whole thing becomes comforting in a childish but effective way.

It is enjoyable, but heavy. This is not the dish to eat alone after a full savoury main unless you enjoy bargaining with your own stomach. Shared between two or three people, it makes more sense.

Refined? No.

Fun? Yes.

Caramelized Banana Waffles: The Sweet Order We Preferred

The Caramelized Banana Waffles with vanilla ice cream felt like the better dessert order.

The waffle gives structure, the caramelized banana adds sticky sweetness, and the vanilla ice cream helps stop the whole plate from becoming too sugary. That bit of bitterness matters. Without it, this could easily become too sweet and too one-note.

The best bites are when you get warm waffle, banana and cold ice cream together. It is simple, but it works because the textures make sense: crisp edges, soft centre, creamy ice cream, sticky banana.

This is probably where Fifty Trees feels most comfortable. Pretty space, relaxed mood, dessert that looks good and tastes good enough after the photos are taken.

If we had to pick one sweet dish, we would choose this over the pancakes.

So, Is Fifty Trees JB Worth Visiting?

Yes, but mainly for the setting and relaxed brunch mood.

Fifty Trees is not the cafe that changes your understanding of food. It is a pleasant, greenery-filled cafe that works for groups, brunch, dessert and lazy afternoons around Taman Melodies. The space is the strongest part. The food is decent, but you need to order carefully.

The savoury dishes are safe, with the Egg Benedict being the better pick for us. The sweet dishes are more fun, especially the waffles. Service and waiting time may depend on when you visit, so do not arrive during peak hours with an empty stomach and a fragile personality.

Would we return? Yes, if we were already nearby or doing a JB cafe day.

Would we cross the Causeway just for Fifty Trees alone? Probably not.

But as part of a Taman Melodies or KSL-area cafe plan, it makes sense. Come for the greenery, keep expectations reasonable, and save space for waffles.

Fifty Trees in Taman Melodies looks like the kind of JB cafe Singaporeans will immediately save on Google Maps, especially if they already spend weekends comparing cafes in Singapore and wondering whether crossing the Causeway buys more space, more greenery and better brunch energy.
