Grumpy Goat & Friends Forest Feast Cafe looks like the kind of JB cafe people save before they know what the food tastes like.
Big glasshouse energy. Greenery. High ceilings. Wood, plants, natural light, forest-cabin mood. The sort of place where everyone walks in and immediately starts deciding which corner will make them look like they live a slower, better life.
Let us be honest: that is why many people come here. It is the kind of place that would fit comfortably into many best cafes in Singapore lists.
But the real question is not whether the cafe looks good. It does. The question is whether the food makes the trip feel worth it.
The answer? Mostly yes, if you order carefully and do not expect every plate to perform miracles.
Grumpy Goat Grilled Chicken Waffle: The One That Makes The Most Sense Here

The Grumpy Goat Grilled Chicken Waffle feels like the most natural order for this kind of cafe.
The waffle had a nice crispness at the edges, giving the plate some texture instead of turning into soft brunch sadness. The grilled chicken was savoury and filling enough to make the dish feel like a proper meal, not just something built for photos.
Taste-wise, it works because the waffle gives a mild sweetness while the chicken brings the salty, savoury weight. It is not a complicated dish, but it does not need to be.
Would we call it life-changing? No. Let us stay hydrated and reasonable.
Salmon Aglio Olio: Good Pasta, Questionable Salmon

The Salmon Aglio Olio was the more complicated plate because some parts worked.
The portion was okay, the spaghetti was al dente and the vegetables were cooked nicely. The pasta base did not feel lazy, which is already more than we can say for many cafe pastas.
But the salmon had a slight fishiness that was hard to ignore. In a simple aglio olio, the fish has nowhere to hide. So while the pasta itself was decent, the salmon stopped the dish from fully landing.
Would we order it again? Probably not.
Nyonya Fried Rice With Chicken Chop: Good Chicken, Rice Needed More Conviction

The Nyonya Fried Rice with grilled chicken sounded more exciting than it tasted.
The rice leaned closer to plain nasi goreng than proper Nyonya fried rice. You could smell the serai very strongly, almost like the dish wanted to prove it had personality, but aroma alone is not flavour. The rice needed more depth, more punch, more reason to call itself Nyonya beyond waving lemongrass at us.
The chicken chop was the better part. Nicely done, satisfying, and honestly carrying the plate more than the rice did. If the rice had more character, this could have been one of the stronger dishes.
As it stood, it was a dish with one good component and one slightly confused component. Not bad. Just not as exciting as the name promised.
Matcha Rose: The Drink We’d Actually Repeat

The Matcha Rose was the surprise winner.
This could easily have gone wrong. Rose drinks can turn into perfume water very quickly and matcha can become bitter if the balance is off. But this was smooth, gentle and properly controlled.
The rose was not overpowering. The matcha was not bitter. The whole drink felt calm, creamy and balanced, which is not something we expected to say with this much confidence.
Honestly, this was probably the easiest thing to recommend.
Would we repeat this? Yes. Actually, yes.
So, Is Grumpy Goat & Friends Worth Visiting?

Grumpy Goat & Friends is not a bad cafe. But it is also not one of those places where every dish lands perfectly just because the setting is attractive.
The space does a lot of heavy lifting. The food is more uneven. Some dishes make sense, some need tweaking and some are better in concept than execution. That is not unusual for a big, photo-friendly cafe with a broad menu, but it does mean you should order with some caution.
Would we travel all the way just for the food? Probably not.
Would we visit if we were already in the area and wanted a pretty cafe with a few safe orders? Yes.
Come for the space. Order carefully. Get the Matcha Rose.
That is the strategy.
