30 Years of Penang Hawker Buffet at York Hotel Singapore – Old is Gold. So delicious!
Town Restaurant @ Fullerton Hotel serves weekend high tea buffet of local food. Rather good quality, and good value. We paid about $40/pax including GST and service charge.
On the 7th floor of Park Hotel Alexandra, beside Ikea, The Carvery is a buffet restaurant that revolves around 3 to 4 roast meats daily by Chef Robert Chan with more than 20 years of experience.
The meats are marinated especially heavy-handedly, so you can taste the saltiness of miso. Depending on whether you prefer little or heavy seasoning, you will dislike or like the food. For me and some Japanese sitting beside me, it was delicious.
In general, the food was light, elegant, and surprisingly healthy for a buffet. It wasn’t the kind of buffet that would leave you bloated and uncomfortable for the rest of the day. It was the kind that you could try every dish once, and leave you contented.
Compared to Table by Rang Mahal, their sister outlet, the food here had more depth. You could taste the subtle spices that add to the complexity, like in the sea bass curry, which wasn’t spicy but possessed a range of flavors. But, like Table, the food did not have much heat, and spiciness is characteristic of Indian food. But I suppose the lack of heat is largely because refined food is restrained, and spiciness represents unbridled wildness, unsuitable for refinement.
We were surprised that the restaurant with such high culinary standards was so quiet. On a whole, the food here scored well, a solid A- grade.
In terms of food, this may be my favorite Korean BBQ buffet. Definitely worth visiting and revisiting.
Oddly, Daessiksin reminds me of 2D1N and Ssikkek; it is better than Ssikkek, but not as good as 2D1N. Daessiksin is definitely a good second choice in Orchard if you can’t get a seat at K. Cook.
