Edit: I’ve been back here another 2 or 3 times and I’ve to say, everything on the dim sum menu tasted AWESOME. This has to be the first dim sum restaurant that has everything perfected.

At the birthday lunch at Mouth Restaurant at Chinatown, we didn’t sample the famous salted egg yolk bun. Out of stock. And Justin Bieber sings, never say never. We didn’t want to rest until we ate it. So we made a quick call to the branch 5 minutes walk away, and reserved 8 buns!

When we got there, we all said, we should have eaten here! The decor is such much more contemporary and chic–White tables and chairs with red beams–than the Chinatown Point main branch although the main branch has an oldschool charm to it.

The service here is about 781 times better than the main branch. They greet you when they see you and when you leave. They pour the tea for you, as should any other Chinese restaurant. And even though we only had 8 buns, we still felt welcome by them.

The salted egg yolk buns! No wonder my friends insisted on coming. There are two kinds, the steamed and baked ones. The steamed ones are like tau sa bao kind, so we got the baked ones. The buns are fresh out of the oven! piping hot and steaming. The buns could only be well-rounded (like my hot ass) if it is hot; it would deflate when cooled. The golden bun consists of melted salted egg, all liquid, with sugared butter, which oozes with each bite. Sometimes it spurts too. The liquid has a viscous consistency and is sweet, kind of like melted butter with sugar on toasted bread. So original, and awesome!! I haven’t eaten anything like this before. Killer combination: salted egg yolk and sugared butter! It gets jelak and excessive with the last few bites, but it’s heaven for the first few bites. If I eat this and die of a stroke (a very likely scenario), it’s worth it! Die die must eat! Eat already can die.
