A halal Western food stall at a kopitiam, chef-owner Hasrat Faddil is a graduate from At-Sunrice Global Chef Academy who has interned at Joel Robuchon.

One must compare apple to apple, and as food at kopitiam goes, this Western food stall was not bad. The homemade patty of the king beef burger ($5) was marinated thoroughly, with the secret ingredient of chicken stock–very tasty. The surface was seared till crispy while the inside remained moist. Topped with caramelized onions, the burger was almost perfect–a pity about the buns and the store-bought sauces, but taking time and cost into consideration, I guess that can’t be helped.

Our favorite dish, Ong Bak pasta ($5), was tom yam pasta, sourish and spicy–we were on a low-carb diet but we finished the entire plate. Irresistible. Sedap! The seafood paella ($5), however, was so-so – tomato-ish rice without much flavor. Stick to the beef burger and the Ong Bak pasta.
