I only recommend things I use, and by using the Entertainer App, I saved $688 this year! (Photo on right as proof.) And I know someone who saved $1.6K!
The Entertainer App gives you 1,275 Buy One Get One Free offers for fine dining, modern & contemporary restaurants, cafés, nightspots, informal dining, attractions, leisure activities, spas, and hotel accommodation.
The app costs $85 for the entire year of 2016, but my discount code 2016RERG gives you 10% off the app. You can buy it as Christmas present, or buy ONE and share it with your friends and family!(Yes, one app purchase can be shared among several mobile devices.)
One good way to recoup to the cost of the app is to visit fine-dining restaurants. For example, if you go to Fat Cow where a steak costs $200, getting it 1-for-1 means you pay only $200, instead of $400. And split the bill in two: each person only pays $100!
Out of the 16 fine dining restaurants,we dropped by the classy Punjab Grill at Marina Bay Sands (2 Bayfront Avenue, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, B1-01A, Singapore 018972; T: +65 6688 7395; 11.30am-3pm, 6.30pm-11pm; facebook; reservations). Punjab Grill serves modern Indian food, that is, using global ingredients but keeping to traditional Indian spices and cooking. It is helmed by award winning Chef Javed Ahamad whose 15-year experience spans globally, including Rang Mahal.
The curries here are 1-for-1 under the The Entertainer App, starting from about $32 for vegetarian curries, and $40 for non-vegetarian. Really quite a good deal. Imagine ordering 2 curries and a few naans. The fish curry is especially tasty, the meat so moist and tender, yet doesn’t fall apart when forked.
But we were offered the 5-course degustation menu ($98++, vegetarian options) to see what Chef Javed can offer. In general, the vegetarian options are more delicious than the non-. For instance, the paneer tikka mulatani (above) is cottage cheese infused with herbs and spices, and tandoori-baked to a golden crust, so crispy as if deep-fried. It’s savory, spicy, well balanced with a hint of sweetness from the pineapple and beetroot puree. And it leaves an intense aromatic smokey aftertaste, lingering in the mouth.
Tandoori broccoli (above) is wonderfully complex when paired with almond marinade. Off-the-menu crispy tandoori-baked mushroom (below) stuffed with cheese, on a bed of spinach puree, is also fantastic. The margherita naan, glazed with mango, can wiped off the spinach, giving moments of savoriness and sweetness.
One meat dish I enjoyed is the chicken almond soup (below), a play on the western chicken soup. Very comforting, and there are layers of distinct tastes, chicken with the sweet aftertaste of almond.
Hater of almond, Mr Fitness, commented, “Food should be like this. Has finesse. It’s real food whose flavors are brought out by spices, and not processed and artificial. Even the almond here tastes so good.”
