Arnold’s Fried Chicken at Yishun is a Singaporean brand; Jollibee at Lucky Plaza is from Philippines; and Ssiksin Chicken at Nex sells Korean-styled chicken although it is under a local company, MOF Group.

ssiksin chicken nexWe love all three chicken; they are good in different ways. But if we are forced to rank them, Ssiksin Chicken (above) is at a disadvantage because it has an advantage. It has the unfair advantage of being covered with an addictive Korean sweet-spicy sauce, almost too sweet. The smallest portion ($9) is already quite a big portion, 2 humongous parts, equivalent to the size is half a small chicken. It doesn’t feel very fresh but the skin remains crispy, and it is  very shiok right to the end.

jollibee lucky plaza sgThe second place goes to Jollibee. You’d imagine the craze has died but it hasn’t. The queue is still long. The  chicken (about $7-$8 a set)  is so moist inside, so tender, and so, so fat. It’s like in Jollibee’s dictionary, there is no such word as “heart attack.”

arnold's fried chicken singapore reviewOur favorite has got to be Arnold’s chicken. It’s halal. The queue is always long. A man bought an entire chicken to eat by himself but it’s a place without judgement. The chicken took some time to cook, but it was worth the wait. There is just something magical about the piping hot chicken, as if it’s oil-free, fat-free, guilt-free. I wish they could open more outlets around the country.

Although we rank the chicken, you can see that we couldn’t find any bad things to say about them. That’s because they are all delicious. I’d return to all three of them.

  1. […] It’s freaking amazing that I didn’t eat anything for the rest of the day because I didn’t want my memory of it to be tainted! Brining prevents the loss of moisture of the chicken during cooking and  the batter protects the chicken inside, so while it’s crispy like a biscuit on the skin, the inside is so juicy it squirts! The chilli really adds depth to the chicken. I don’t want to boast but it’s even better than Arnold’s chicken. […]
