Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow

From now to 16 May, Seasonal Tastes at The Westin presents Seafood Indulgence buffet. On the top of the usual freshly shucked oysters, lobsters, crabs, prawns, and sashimi, Seasonal Tastes adds premium items like curried baked oysters, chilli crab, and seafood gratin.

An interesting cheese: Cahill Port Cheddar

The selection isn’t huge: a salad and cheese bar, cold seafood bar, sashimi and Japanese food section, Indian food, live seafood cooking station, noodle bar, and desserts.

Although the range isn’t wide, the food is good. The Indian food is especially delightful. Both malai scallops and masala lobsters are spicy but you can still taste the premium ingredients; a delicate balance.

The star is the live station. Although they haven’t really figured out a system of whether to ask customers to stand and wait while the food is cooking or whether they should deliver it to the tables, it’s thrilling to be able to select your own seafood, steak, and lamb to be grilled on the spot. A cute couple beside me said, “I want this crab coz it’s still moving.” The grilled items are fresh. Just have to add salt and pepper on your own for seasoning tastes.

The rest of the items are ok, nothing amiss. For desserts, the avocado ice cream and blood orange sorbet are not seen elsewhere. Not bad.

On the whole, the buffet is not bad but I thought it is rather costly at $72++ (Mon-Th) or at $88++ (F-Sun). For someone like me who want a bit of everything, the price may be too high. But for people who can wack plenty of oysters, lobsters, and crabs, Seasonal Tastes is a gem.
