These are the new eateries and/or new menu I have eaten for the past week.

Braised duck at EatAlley

EatAlley
Orchard Gateway #B2-12, 277 Orchard Road, Singapore 238858

Food court EatAlley at Orchard Gateway has brought in 7 KL hawker stalls, including braised duck, nasi lemak, pork soup noodles, KL Hokkien mee, wonton mee, beef noodles, and herbal bak ku teh. I tried most of the food at the original flagships in KL before and happy to say that most of the stalls retain their umami flavours.

But I was disappointed with the beef noodles; it was explosive in KL, but here it was plain. My favourites are the braised duck, pork soup noodles, and wonton mee. Each plate costs about $10, good pricing at Orchard, considering that my heartland food court sells at about the same price. EatAlley is going to be so successful, it’s the only food court in Orchard area that offers such a delicious and wide selection of food.

Oroshi yuzu rosa set

Tonkatsu ENbiton
313 Somerset #B3-25/26/27, 313 Orchard Road, Singapore 238895

They serve Kagoshima yuzu pork for the tonkatsu (Japanese fried pork cutlet); not that the pork has shavings of yuzu, it’s that the pigs feed on yuzu as part of their diet. It’s not the best tonkatsu I’ve eaten but given the price point (which starts from $15), it’s not bad, no grease and quite tender. They also have a A4/A5 Miyazaki beef ($39) which is worth splurging on. Rice and cabbage are refillable. They have outlets at 313 Somerset, Vivocity, Causeway Point, and Suntec City.

Food: 6.25/10
Price: 7/10

Singapore Food Festival 2023
Dining under city lights, fairy lights, and starlight

Singapore Food Festival
Bayfront Event Space
19th – 30th July 2023

Singapore Food Festival marks its return for the 30th anniversary. There is a great variety of food, from savoury to sweet, from cold to hot, from traditional to innovative to Asian-influenced food, from hawker to fine-dining. There’s even fugu! And I liked everything I ate. Don’t try to finish every stall, it’s impossible. One complaint I have is we can’t find mineral water to buy! Only smoothies, bubble tea, or beer. Next year, I’ll rent a stall here and sell water. I’ll making a killing.

There’s a certain romance in dining al fresco, under the city lights, star light, and fairy lights, certainly good for date night. If eating is about experience, this was a great one for us. My Canadian and Mexican friends enjoyed themselves so much despite the warm weather. I even picked up a stranger and exchanged number, you know, real-life tinder! (We’ve been texting! LOL)

Entrance fees start from $8, the more you pay, the more privileges you enjoy. When you enter, you pay for the food separately from the entrance fee. The food isn’t cheap though.
