Montana Brew Bar Pomo ReviewMontana Brew Bar at Pomo is a small cafe that focuses on coffee and waffles, although there are also sandwiches and salads. For coffee, you can choose from two blends and two single-origin (Costa Rica San Guillermo and Ethiopian Yigacheffe). Besides the normal types of coffee (from $3.50 onwards), they also serve Australian-styled pourover ($5.20) and aeropress ($5.20), both of which were fruity. My flat white was mineral, and ended with a slight burnt aftertaste–not bad.

Montana Brew Bar singapore menuMontana serves both sweet and savory waffles, ranging from $9.50-$10.50.  There are some smart innovations here. The waffles mix was balanced so that it could pair, not clash, with both the sweet or savory. It was crispy, but the inside could be fluffier.

Montana cafe SGIn general, I preferred the savory waffles to the sweet. The mac-and-cheese waffle, dusted with white truffle powder, was a crowdpleaser, but I preferred the Southern chicken waffle sandwich with wasabi coleslaw–because it had protein, and better mouthfeel, and made a more balanced meal–and frittata waffle with truffle mushroom spheres because I like eggs.

Montana Brew Bar PomoThe sweet waffles, however, required some improvement. The chocolate banana waffle, sprinkled with nutella truffle powder, tasted artificial; the suzette waffle was too sour; the red velvet stack didn’t taste like red velvet, and should be renamed bandung stack (rose syrup), and if it is a bandung stack, then I’d like it. My favorite was the matcha waffle with spheres of passionfruit, which left a tea-bitter aftertaste at the back of my throat, something a tea-lover will relish.

Montana Brew Bar SingaporeThe week-old cafe is still tweaking its recipes, asking feedback from its customers, removing some items from the menu, adding other dishes on it. Its sincerity shows in listening to feedback. Besides, the coffee and waffles are more pocket-friendly compared to other cafes, making Montana a great place for students and a quick lunch.

  1. Was there the other day and shared only the Truffle Mac & Cheese Waffles; quite decent. Guess I should give the other savoury ones a try some other day too!

    1. Yeah man. Everyone loves the mac and cheese but it’s carbby. I wanted protein.

      1. True that; guessed it was the only item that really stood out to most; after all first look on the menu and its the only one item that one just can’t find anywhere … yet. Haha

        1. You’re the cafe expert, I defer to your judgement. :) I don’t visit cafes as often as you but i thought savory nutella truffle powder on sweet chocolate waffle and passionfruit on matcha are unique too. And frittata waffle with mushroom truffle and suzette waffle–I don’t see those often. Maybe got in other cafes that I dunno. :p
