The set lunch at Shibuya Sushi Bar at Seah St is super worth the money. Depending on what you choose for the main, the set lunch starts from $18 to $28 for 6 dishes: Miso soup, sashimi (2 slices of maguro tuna, 2 salmon), salad, cold udon, a main dish, and dessert.
For my main, I chose aburi sushi set ($20). 6 pieces of sushi, with a block of tamago. At this price, the quality and taste are good. I especially enjoyed the cold udon in hot weather.
Pinky Piggu had the a la carte omi beef bowl ($50, below). I have always loved omi beef. The rice was hard, the beef was tender, and when you masticate, the juices flow out, mixing and softening the rice in the mouth. I also have a predilection for sweet sauces. Very tasty. Unfortunately, as Pinky pointed out, it didn’t have a charred surface. I think they are constrained by space, cannot put a charcoal grill in here. So they can only pan-sear the beef.
It’s really just a tiny sushi bar with about 12-15 seats and in any case, when they cook, the ventilation is bad. A charcoal grill is out of the question. But I find the decor elegant, bright, modern, with nice lamps and clean lines. I paid $23 for my set lunch.
