These are the eateries I’ve been for the past two weeks:

Mish Mash
198 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058747
F & Sat 12pm – 2.30pm
Tue – Sat 6pm-12pm

Mish Mash is a watering hole helmed by Boo Jing Heng, the former principal bartender of Jigger & Pony (No. 2 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2022). But the gastrobar transcends that of being merely a bar; the food is interesting. They market the cuisine as global food, but I think it’s more Modern Asian, western food with an Asian twist. Must order: cherrywood smoked engawa ($28, pictured above), Spanish Turbot risotto ($42) which they marketed it as a twist on fish and chips, but really it’s a twist on fish porridge; and the cocktail Lusty Lemon. Tomidou
1 Nassim Road #01-01 Singapore 258458
t: +65 9135 1010
12pm – 3pm, 6pm – 10pm

Tomidou is a sushi omakase restaurant that starts from $150 for lunch and $400 for dinner. It is my favourite restaurant so far this year. Not only is the food exquisite and super delicious, the decor and the service are top-notched too. Besides all that excellence, Tomidou really stood up for its creativity. If you visit fancy sushi omakase restaurants often, you’ll know they like to stick to a certain traditional way of doing things; that’s just Japanese. And Tomidou does it traditionally too, but in that tradition, the chef rearranges certain food on the menu, which surprises me and is kind of refreshing. He found creativity within the bounds of tradition – and that’s amazing. Full review here.

Ms Maria and Mr Singh
43 Craig Rd, Singapore 089681
T: +65 9654 4351
Lunch: F-Sun 12pm – 3.30pm
Dinner: T-Th & weekends 6pm – 10.30pm; F 6pm-12am

Ms Maria and Mr Singh is helmed by Gaggan Anand. If you find his name familiar, it’s because he was the chef of the now-defunct Best Restaurant in Asia. Maria and Singh serves Mexican x Indian food because his wife is Mexican and Gaggan is Indian. There are some a la carte items but the bulk is tasting menus at $68, $78, $138 per pax for dinner, which is excellent pricing for a top chef’s restaurant. What works for me are dishes with both Indian and Mexican influences like a ceviche in cold curry, both interesting and delicious. Full review here.

Tam Chiak Kopitiam
212 Hougang Street 21 $01-349 Singapore 530212
facebook / instagram

Except for the Western food stall which was originally there from the former Kopitiam, food blogger Miss Tam Chiak curated the other 9 food stalls. The two stalls with long queues are Dan Lao (scrambled eggs over rice) and Ru Ji fishball noodles which handmake their fishballs. I tried Ayam Taliwang Nasi Lemak, Oppa Kitchen (Korean food similar to Yoogane), Ru Ji, and Flakyhaus pastries. They are all of a certain standard and I guess, you really could eat at any stall here and won’t be disappointed.
