Tonkotsu King Keisuke, Tanjong Pagar

Walked by this ramen restaurant with a long queue, so just had to queue. I’m Singaporean what. See Q, Must Q. And it’s worth it de!

One of the reasons for the queue is because the place is tiny, sitting less than 20 people at a time. So it’d be considerate if you can eat and go. Don’t linger. The decor is no decor, with just wooden tables and chairs against a pea-green wall with porn posters. A box of tissues is hung on the wall for sharing. Old Japanese music is played. The focus is very clear: the food!!

There are only three types: Tonkotsu Ramen (pork broth),  Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (black pepper sauce added), and Red Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (chili oil added). Then you can decide if you want only seawood or only egg or all in. Then you customize your taste of soup, chicken oil and noodle texture like this:

I think the system is so smart de! Because the servers are all Japanese, by ticking your own order, there is no mistake. One thing I have to say is the servers are AWESOME. Even though we don’t speak a common language, they are so polite and smiling and warm.

But even before the ramen comes, there are free eggs! These are normal hard-boiled eggs and you can add Japanese mayo to them.

Free Eggs!

Tonkotsu Ramen Special

I had the Tonkotsu Ramen Special ($14.80), which is the all-in. You can add in complimentary spicy beansprouts and bonito flakes (for favoring). But no need, it was O. M. G. The egg is done in the right way, hard eggwhite with watery yolk, although not as tasty as marutama‘s. The pork doesn’t melt in the mouth but that’s ok because it’s lean. It’s the soup! It is so tasty! The best soup in Singapore!!! This blog was kicked off because of a search for the best ramen in Singapore, and this soup has to be the best! It is very difficult to describe the richness of the soup because there are just so many good stuff inside. One word: SPECTACULAR.

Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen Special

Before

After

Mr. NGFL ordered Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen Special ($15.80) and look! he finished everything.

The serving is very hearty and we ate until we were so shiok and satisfied. The service is top-notched. Love the old patchwork posters anyhow paste on the wall, giving it a cozy ambience. But too bad about the long queue. If not for the queue, I would eat this everyday!!
