Both Swan Valley are Margaret River are famed for wineries. If you have only one day, go to Swan Valley (see Option A). But if you can spare 2 or 3 days, Margaret River is way more fun (see Option B).
Option A: Swan Valley & Cohunu Koala Park
About a 30-min drive from Perth City to Swan Valley. Visit one or both wineries:
– Houghton Wines (148 Dale Road, Middle Swan, Western Australia 6065) has a history since 1839.
– Sandalford Winery (3210 West Swan Rd, Caversham Western Australia 6055; +61 8 9374 9374) offers an hour long tour daily at 12pm at A$16. Every Sat 11am, there is a popular 3-hour “Become a Winemaker for a Day” tour at A$145.
From Swan Valley, take an hour long drive to Cohunu Koala Park (Lot 103, Nettleton Rd, Byford, WA 6122; +61 8 9526 2966; A$15 [adults], A$5 [child], additional A$25 to take photos with koala; 10am-5pm daily [last photos at 4pm]), one of three places in the world that allows you to cuddle a koala. You can also hand-feed kangaroos, and emus.
Then drive to the airport (40 minutes from Cohunu) and return home.
Option B: Cohunu Koala Park & Margaret River
