Updated: January 21, 2018

The Bib Gourmand list recognises restaurants and street food establishments offering quality cuisine at a maximum price of S$45.

In 2016, there were 34 restaurants and hawkers, 17 in each category. This year, there are 38 entries. 18 are in the restaurant category and 20 under street food, although how they differentiate between restaurant and street food is arbitrary. For instance, they list 328 Katong Laksa under restaurant but Bismillah, which has its own proper shop space, is under street food.

This year, it seems that the inspectors have taken into account some of the feedback. People complained that the inspectors only visited places around CBD area but this year, they included Ah Er Soup (ABC Brickworks Food Centre) and Zai Shun Curry Fish Head (Jurong).

Out of the 38 entries this year, 9 are new. And if your maths is good, you’d have calculated that 5 eateries from last year are dropped. They are JB Ah MengHJH Maimunah, Alaturka (Bussorah St), A Fishball Story (Geylang), and Wedang (Golden Mile). Hopefully, they can regain entry next year.

Out of the 9 new entries this year, I am not surprised to find Tsuta and Liao Fan Hawker Chan on the list since they come from Michelin-starred origin. I am pleasantly surprised that Man Man, which I listed as Best Casual Restaurant in 2016, got a spot. Hey, I have good taste. I am, however, most shocked at Shirokane Tori-Tama’s entry because I have not heard of it before. Guess I have to remedy it.

Congratulations to these are the 38 eateries:

  1. […] year, I see another problem. Liao Fan, which retains its Michelin star, has also a Bib Gourmand entry this year. Both outlets serve the same food and should have similar standard. But how come the hawker stall […]

  2. They left out Tiong Bahru Loh Mee, consistently good and well deserved of a place in bib gourmand

    1. The shark one? I like it too. They seem to like laksa a lot. I think there are 3 laksa on the list but no lor mee. Maybe they don’t know how to appreciate lor mee. Now I feel like eating lor mee.
