The Diner by the Travelling COW at CT Hub is not an easy location to find but its luck of a success story may rub off you. (We all need luck to start the new year right!) Travelling Cow started as one of Singapore’s premier food truck–C.O.W. is an acronym for “Chef on Wheels”–and has expanded into a small cozy bistro, great for families and casual dining. (The food truck is still operational.)

The best mains here are the burgers ($10-$15) in different buns: ramen bun, or toasted bun, or ciabatta sandwich. Select the fillings: waygu beef, or teriyaki chicken, or bulgolgi short rib. They are all delicious in different ways: wagyu patty is always awesome, juicy and flavorful. The teriyaki chicken with ramen bun is a playful rendition of Japanese food, and the chicken is tender and marinated beautifully.

Bulgolgi short rib sandwich ($15)

When you save on mains, you can splurge on starters and desserts. The truffle mac & cheese balls ($8, below) with 3 different cheeses are rolled into balls, crumbed, and deep-fried—crispy and soft but not starchy. The oriental chicken salad ($8) is a healthy interpretation of local Hainanese chicken rice without rice; the salad sauce tastes exactly like chicken rice. Popular instagrammer @zippyzipeng who dined with me commented, “This is the first time I’m finishing my greens!” Tricking kids into eating their vegetables–way to go!
